BB2C Student Perspective: Aran Barney

Meet our Marietta College intern Aran Barney!

Aran is an intern with us and we are excited to have her back for a second semester! She is a 2012 graduate of Parkersburg High School, is a senior at Marietta College and a Theta Phi Alpha Alumna. Her major is Psychology and she aspires to "work with families to help them become career ready".

We were able to have Aran intern with us through the Great Lakes Career Ready Internship Grant through Marietta College. After interning with Building Bridges to Careers fall 2016 semester, she decided to come back and would like to stay on with BB2C after she graduates. Aran is a perfect example of our Building Bridges to Careers objective: bridging the gap between education and employment.

In her own words: "When I first heard about building bridges to careers, I knew nothing about it. When I went in for my interview I learned about the projects they had and that they were looking for a place to house their next one, the Epicenter. At my interview I had agreed to help with Family Career Awareness Day, or FCAD.  The goal of FCAD is to help students and their parents in the community hear about jobs and the requirements various employers in the area like for their employees to have. At FCAD I was a "rent-a-mom" and walked the students (that didn't come with a guardian) around to help them talk to the businesses. As a college student, and young adult, I can see how beneficial this project is for community members that are students and employers. With this being my second semester with BB2C, I look forward to helping with many more projects and getting more networking experience."
